WORKSHOPS WITH ALEXANDRA WOOD AND STEFANO FAVA

SATURDAY SEPT 11TH
Workshop 1:  SHOW TANGO PART 1 (11.30-13.00)
  - You asked for it and for the first time ever we will give you an insight into the fancy and spectacular  moves from Alexandra and Stefano’s performance choreography. This  first workshop features amongst other moves some dramatic voleos, 'chaine' turns, kicks and sweeps.
Workshop 2:  SHOW TANGO PART 2 (13.30-15.00)
 -  Part 2 is a continuation and progression from the first workshop featuring amongst other moves some stunning back sacadas,  ganchos and lifts. Show tango is not necessarily tango for the crowded milonga, but learning these challenging, impressive moves will improve your technical knowledge, creativity and repertoirre.
Workshop 3: VALS MUSICALITY AND FLOW (15.15-16.45)
 – Alexandra + Stefano remove the fear and put the fun back into Vals with elegant flowing patterns and useful tips on interpreting the rhythm. This workshop will be demonstrated by dancing to our weekend theme tune ‘desde el alma’ which is one of the most famous and beautiful Vals ever written .
Workshop 4a: MEN’S  STYLING WITH STEFANO (17.00-18.30) – Perfecting your Tango Walk in Villa Urquiza Style. This most graceful and elegant salon style as danced by the great maestros (Dispari, Zotto) is named after the region of
Buenos Aires
from where it emanates. Stefano will break down the elements and explore the dynamics of ‘The Walk’ and by the end have you walking gorgeous and flowing steps.
Workshop 4b: LADIES STYLING WITH ALEXANDRA (
17.00-18.30) – Alexandra uses her extensive  tango, ballet and contemporary dance expertise to focus on strengthening the followers Central Core. This enables you to have the fluid and loose free leg essential for dancing tango at a high level. More importantly it allows you to play, be more responsive to the lead and opens up a wealth of embellishment possibilities. These will also be demonstrated and worked on in the workshop.
Workshop 5: DANCING TO DIFFERENT ORCHESTRAS (18.45-20.15)
- How different orchestras can inspire your dancing to new heights and lead you to interpret the music in different ways. We will explore a number of different orchestras where the emphasis is on the rhythm, beat or melody and  show  how to adapt your dancing to better reflect what is going on in the music. An ideal workshop to end the day and  get you ready for the evening’s milonga.

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 12TH
Workshop 6: TAKING THE LADY OFF AXIS: VOLCADAS DEMYSTIFIED (11.00-12.30) – Volcadas are perhaps the most ‘wow’ inducing tango moves. Although often performed on the stage, the
Buenos Aires
maestros claim they have always been part of the Salon tradition. Learn how to properly lead and be safely led  these lovely moves  with control and care for your partner/fellow dancers.
Workshop 7: TURN YOUR GIROS AROUND WITH STYLISH VARIATIONS/EMBELISHMENTS( 13.00-14.30)
– Anyone who believes they have nothing more to learn about giros is either a bit deluded or  teaching masterclasses in BA. This workshop will strengthen your giros whilst providing some meaningful  footwork/sacadas for the men and  ronde embelishments + correct disassociation for the Ladies.
Workshop 8: MILONGA TRASPIE – BEYOND BASICS (14.30-16.00) - Some novel and useful Milonga patterns to help you vary your repertoire including some  fancy double time sidesteps, forced crossing and kicks for men and women. A fun, frivolous way to end the weekend and ease into the tea dance.
